Purpose...
The purpose of SCECA is to work on behalf of young children and their
families. In particular SCECA will:
1. Increase awareness of the needs of children birth through eight by providing
opportunities for better
coordination among parents, teachers, health workers, religious and social
workers, and others concerned
with the childbirth through eight.
2. Aid teachers by promoting workshops and conferences; and establish health and
educational standards for
nursery schools, kindergartens and other child care centers.

Childhood Special Education
Master’s Degree Program
We are soliciting a new cohort of up to 10 full-time graduate students who
have undergraduate early childhood, elementary, or early childhood special
education degrees; teacher certification; and South Carolina residency.
Full-time status includes 12 hours of course work and a 20-hour per week
internship in an early childhood setting with young children with and without
developmental delays each semester. Successful applicants will receive tuition
reimbursement and a small student stipend of $4,000 spread across the spring and
fall semesters. The next group of graduate students will begin their studies in
the fall of 2008.

SCECA would like to recognize persons who have contributed to the early care and
education of SC's children with four new honorary awards:
Rhonda Corley Friend of Children Award
This award is to be given annually to an outstanding South Carolinian who is a
strong advocate for the needs of South Carolina’s children. The recipient does
not have to be a member of SCECA to receive the award.
Jeanne Greene Administrator’s Award
This award is given annually to an outstanding person who serves in an
administrative position who works for the needs of South Carolina’s children.
The recipient must be a current member of SCECA and work with public, private or
church related centers.
Saundra Ground Early Childhood Educator’s Award
This award is given annually to an outstanding educator (childcare worker,
teacher, teacher assistant, etc.) who works with children in South Carolina. The
recipient must be a current member of SCECA.
Noelle Patrick Student of the Year Award
This award is given annually to a deserving student of Early Childhood
Education. The recipient does not have to be a member of SCECA to receive the
award.
